Summer Camp 2019

Summer camp this year was at Skreens Park in Chelmsford. Over the week we went geocaching and walked 8.5 miles, we went kayaking down the Chelmer and took part in several of the new activities built to celebrate a 100 years of Scouting in Essex at Skreens Park. The scouts have improved their kayaking by leaps and bounds and learnt new skills that we hope will last them a lifetime. We spent many evenings laughing around the campfire, playing campfire games and learning funny tongue twisters which will keep smiles on our faces as we go back to work and school. Wishing all of the scouts a wonderful remaining holiday and a safe return to school this September.

Jamboree Candidate

Earlier this year we found out that one of our scouts had been accepted to go to the Australian Jamboree.  He worked incredibly hard to achieve this and although we are always proud of our scouts, on this occasion we could not be prouder to have him as one of our scouts.

His hard work was not and is still not over just yet though as over the last few months he has worked to raise the money needed for flights, accommodation and entrance fees.

We will be advertising some of his events on our Facebook page so that scouts and scout parents can get involved in what will be a life changing experience for him. Again he is making everyone around him exceptionally proud and in the last few months he has developed as a person in ways we could never have expected.

Soon it will be Christmas and he will leave England for a three week adventure all on his own at 14 years old. After his adventure he will visit us to tell us about his trip and hopefully write a little for the website before he makes his transition up to Explorers. As always we wish him every success and cannot wait to hear all about his Austrailian adventure.

Camping Competition

A huge well done to the two patrols who took part in the district camping competition! We’re happy to say that the teams received the first place in the competition and first place in the novice. Both teams worked exceedingly hard and made us proud. The teams received well earned compliments for their camp cleanliness, tent erecting and team work. They were also awarded second place in the master chef for camp cooking and came second in the district events over the last year. One last well done to all the leaders to helped prepare the scouts for camping competition

Further to our news regarding the world jamboree, there has been a district selection camp. Our three scouts had the opportunity to gain one of fourteen places over the weekend by impressing a panel of judges. All of our scout did their best but only one achieved a place. While we are proud of all three scouts, this is a very special achievement.

We would all like to congratulate this young person and wish them the very best of luck at the County selection. Here they will have the opportunity to gain a place and move on to the next selection. It is a great honour to have gotten this far and we are sure that they are very proud of their actions. Once again we would like to take a moment to congratulate them and to remind them that even if they do not make the next selection they have every right to be proud.

Latest News from the Scouts section

On Sunday 23rd July, ten of our scout came down to Mucking Hall Farm and participated in the river clean up. We worked hard for an hour and a half and managed to find everything from crisp packets to toasters and plant pots. All of the scout enjoyed themselves and felt a sense of achievement when they saw what they had managed. We are very proud of them and their dedication to their work. Even the event organisers were impressed and thanked the scouts for their efforts. We will be running another clean up later in the year and hopefully we will have the same success.
